Program Updates

We have had a busy couple of months visiting our partner schools, meeting with principals, starting new programs at our Permaculture Center, and hosting guests at Thulani!

Gardens At Saile And Morei Primary Schools

In 2019 we drilled boreholes at Saile and Morei Primary School. We recently completed garden projects at both schools by installing net shading, designing the gardens with staff and students, and planting summer crops. Trygive has helped the schools start their gardens by hosting workshops and teaching permaculture techniques for garden design, intercropping, mulching, soil fertility, and water conservation.

At every school we start gardens at, we ask for 20 student volunteers who would like to learn more about permaculture and help maintain the gardens. These volunteers will work with Trygive throughout the year to add mulch to the garden, plant new seedlings, and ensure the garden is being watered regularly. Saile and Morei have a great team of volunteers helping in the garden and we can not wait to see their first bounty later this season.

Updates From Our Permaculture Center!

Our center is coming along nicely! Some community members in Acornhoek have been helping us in the garden and we have been sharing the harvests with our volunteers and those in need in our community. We are starting to experiment with new permaculture techniques such as seed collection and soon we will be introducing a Seed Library at our center where community members can come and get free seeds to start their own gardens.

Our major goal for 2022 at our Permaculture Center is to introduce new programs for the community including an after school program for vulnerable children in Acornhoek and Junior Achievement’s Youth Enterprise Development Courses. The JA program we will host at our Permaculture Center will be for young women who live in Acornhoek ages 18-35 who are interested in starting/growing their own business. Feel free to reach out to us to learn more about these new programs and how you can help us get started.

We are also working on starting our olive orchard at our Permaculture Center. Every purchase of our Napa Valley Extra Virgin Olive Oil Gift Set gets us that much closer to starting our orchard. Our long term goal is to grow olives that can be pressed to create our own South African olive oil and will be sold to local shops and lodges. We still have A Spring of Hope Olive Oil Gift Sets available on our website if you are looking to try our olive oil or send out some gifts to friends and family. Click below to order yours today!
