Joanne and Brittany Visit South Africa
This month, Joanne and Brittany have returned to South Africa to visit our team and see the growth and success of our Permaculture Centre and our new programs. During their trip they visited our Permaculture Centre, visited many of our partner schools, met with principals, and observed our Girls’ Club and Mina Cup workshops.
In this newsletter we would like to share just some of the amazing things that are happening at our Permaculture Centre and at our partner schools.
We are happy to share that A Spring of Hope’s Permaculture Centre is officially open and we have begun to host community programs at our Centre. The first program we introduced at our Permaculture Centre was our After School Meal Program. With this program, we are able to feed over a hundred vulnerable children from the town of Acornhoek Monday through Friday including holidays and school breaks. Our permaculture garden is providing fresh fruits and vegetables that are prepared and incorporated in the after school meals. In addition to receiving a nutritious meal after school, children also hav a safe and fun environment to decompress from their school day and play with their peers. We are currently building a playground which will make the Permaculture Centre an even more inviting and fun space for children to play and relax.
Beretta Primary’s Girls’ Club

Beretta Primary’s Girls’ Club has been meeting weekly after school at Beretta and once a month they meet at our Permaculture Centre for a special meeting and a hot meal. The girls are enjoying the club and are displaying greater confidence in and out of school.
This month we are celebrating Menstrual Health & Hygiene Day by hosting another Mina Cup Workshop where girls in need will receive menstrual hygiene cups and they will participate in an educational workshop about menstrual health.
Olive Trees

Our olive trees are thriving at our Permaculture Centre! We are so excited to see that they are already producing olives.

Permaculture Gardens
Permaculture gardens at our partner schools are also expanding. Students and staff from Morei Primary School have been working hard to create garden beds, mulch, plant seedlings and trees, and implement different permaculture techniques to improve their harvests and protect their vegetables from insects. We are looking forward to hosting a Permaculture Workshop for our partner schools in the coming months and we can not wait to help them grow their gardens.

Every donation helps us bring WASH+ solutions to our partner schools and new programs to our Permaculture Center. This includes, clean water, improved sanitation, sustainable gardens, safer kitchens, after school programs, enterprise development courses, and female empowerment programs!
