28 May 2019 Elementary Schools Help Drill Wells and Learn about the World Water Crisis
Our ‘A Drop In The Bucket‘ program was developed to engage children and teach them about the World Water Crisis and A Spring of Hope’s work in South Africa through creative curriculum. The program has proven to be very successful and schools throughout the US have been learning about the importance of water conservation and the World Water Crisis while raising funds for water wells at our partner schools. A Spring of Hope has drilled 4 water wells with the help of elementary schools in the U.S.
A big thank you to our participating schools:
- Bridle Path Elementary School (PA)
- Woodland Elementary School (CA)
- Stephenson Elementary School (OR)
- Happy Valley Elementary School (OR
Emily has been working with these schools to help them throughout the program and to organize a fundraiser that best suits their students and their school. Schools have been extremely creative in their fundraising and this year has proven to be no exception. Stephenson Elementary School raised over a thousand dollars during their ‘Day of A Child’ event where they sold candy necklaces to raise funds for a water well at Saile Primary School. Emily presented to their third grade classes before the event. She was very impressed with their enthusiasm and their knowledge of water conservation.
Happy Valley Elementary School is our newest school participating in our ‘A Drop In The Bucket’ program. Happy Valley’s third grade class is getting ready to host a Walk For Water. Students are asking their friends and family members to sponsor them during the walk. As students are walking around the track they will be carrying jugs of water to learn about the struggle many students in South Africa face when their schools and homes do not have access to clean drinking water.
Not only have our program been successful in fundraising but we have been collaborating with teachers to expand the program to include communications between schools in the U.S and the school they are sponsoring. Happy Valley Elementary School started a pen pal project. Our project director, Trygive delivered these letters to Saile Primary and the students at Happy Valley are very excited to receive Saile’s responses.
