Our staff and the staff at our partner schools have been hard at work the past few months learning about permaculture and planting gardens according to these principles. We are now seeing the exciting and bountiful results of all these efforts. The schools will incorporate the harvest into more nutritious lunches for the learners, and can also sell excess produce to the surrounding community – ensuring additional income streams for many of these struggling rural schools as well as reducing food insecurity in the region, especially crucial during this time of drought in South Africa. Our programs are specifically designed to start each school down a path to self-sustainability and watching them come to fruition fills our hearts with pride at the dedication of our staff, the school staff, the volunteers, and the children.
